Early July 2016: A small Itoigawa Chinese Juniper shohin bonsai I carved and styled in early July in Cambridgeshire.
Early July 2016: During my day in Cambidgeshire I had the pleasure of re-visiting a huge Carpinus betulus/ European Hornbeam I carved and styled during March 2015. The deadwood had faded and weathered well and looked very natural.
Early July 2016: Work began in early July defoliating a very powerful Shohin Acer buergerianum/Trident Maple Bonsai for a client, this beautiful tree is just 8"/20cm in height.
Early July 2016: After defoliation to increase ramification when the tree came back into leaf, pruning and a full styling. Rather than just a mass of foliage, the tree had a design re-imposed on it.
Early July 2016: My Crataegus monogyna/Common Hawthorn. The ramification on this tree had increased dramatically in recent years and accordingly, the leaf-size had reduced well.
Collected in 2004 from local grasslands.
Planted in pot by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery
Early July 2016: Crataegus monogyna/Common Hawthorn bonsai, 2004-2016, seen here from almost exactly the same angle in each image.
I collected the tree in 2004 from an old mine slag-heap, west of Manchester, where it had been hit by an off-road vehicle and looked fairly sorry for itself!
A progression series covering the development of this tree from 2003 to 2014 can be seen here on Bonsai4me.com
