Early March 2016: One of my Sabina Juniper bonsai before and after a second carving session. I had initially cleaned and carved the deadwood during 2015 but there were areas that I felt could be improved with more thorough carving and detailing.
Purchased as raw material 18 months ago, at this stage the foliage mass had only been roughly laid-out so far.
Early March 2016: The Sabina Juniper bonsai from a slightly different angle, showing the live vein to better effect.
Early March 2016: Before and after carving a Cherry Plum bonsai (Prunus cerasifera) collected and developed by apprentice Sean Stolp.
Early March 2016: Before and after images of a large boxwood bonsai carved in early March. Collected 2 days before my daughter was born in 2009, this Boxwood bonsai has always been known as "Alice's Tree". The deadwood still needs another session of refining and aging but I was pleased with its progress at this stage.
Height 23"/56cm with a 8"/20cm trunkbase.
Mid-March 2016: Yours truly pictured alongside "Alice's tree", after refining and aging my earlier carving, followed by wiring and styling of the branches. Height 23"/56cm. Pot by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery / Bonsai
