And seen from a different angle. The stump has been hollowed and then an outer 'skin' created. However, the carving still looks very fresh and unrefined, given time it will naturally age as the wood matures and begins to crack in places.

However, t his image shows a different stump where I have shown Luka how to artificially 'age' the wood using a Dremel. Eventually all of the hollows will be darkened and aged to improve their appearance further.

The Hornbeam after 2 styling sessions, totalling 9-10 hours worth of carving. The tree was pruned hard, leaving just those shoots and branches required for its future as a bonsai. Further work is planned in 2 months time and will involve wiring the branches and further refinement of the newly carved wood.
