Detail of the flowers on my Prunus spinosa/Blackthorn bonsai
Detail of the flowers on my Prunus spinosa/Blackthorn bonsai, in full flower right now. Mature blackthorn flower readily on new growth, only a year or two after complete removal of the branch structure. If you have a ‘blackthorn’ that is taking longer to start flowering, it maybe that it is the more common Prunus avium/Wild Cherry (these can take a good while to start flowering but otherwise are very similar). . . #bonsai #blackthorn #tree #flowers #spring

Prunus spinosa/Blackthorn bonsai
Update on my Prunus spinosa/Blackthorn bonsai that is in full flower right now. Originally collected by Sean Stolp from The Hill 5-6 years ago, the full story of the tree from wild yamadori to finished bonsai featured in an edition of Esprit Bonsai last year. The gorgeous pot is one of my favourites from Victor Harris of Erin Pottery and picks up the tones of the tree perfectly at this time of year. . . #bonsai #tree #blackthorn #flowers
