Olive Semi-Cascade Bonsai Carving And Styling Olea sylvestris/European Olive bonsai, carved and styled by Harry Harrington during a demonstration at the Chiltern Bonsai Society Show (UK) 28/05/2017. Originally collected in Majorca, Spain, this yamadori Olive had a large bulbous trunk that required carving to make it taper better into the cascading branch. Reduced from a 6 hour demonstration, in this 9 minute video, Harry Harrington shows how by using basic carving tools, fitted to a Dremel carving machine, a better tapered and interesting trunk can be achieved.

Betula/Birch bonsai are another difficult species despite being an easily obtainable native UK tree species. Known for being a fast growing tree, they have a bad reputation for dying back easily. In this video I discuss how to avoid them losing branches and how to style them. It’s very easy when you know how!
