LECA-Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate are granules of clay that have expanded after firing, resulting in a very lightweight soil filled with a labyrinth of air/water channels that roots are able to grow within. As such, they provide excellent water retention, aeration and drainage for any excess water.

Widely used in the hydroponics industry, LECA is very useful for making bonsai soil mixes. Trees can be grown in 100% LECA, however, I would recommend using it as part of a soil mix.

Although the granules are relatively large, because the tree is able to make use of the microscopic air pockets, LECA will help produce a fine, well-ramified root system.

Contains very little fines (if any), no need for sieving.
